Barbel and chub give variety at Little Comfort Farm

posted in: Coarse Fishing, Sidebar | 0

The owners of Little Comfort Farm sent me this information about their fishery near West Down that is nestled in a quiet and peaceful valley.

We have just introduced some mature barbel and chub (12-14inches) to our lake, all in excellent condition from Ilfracombe aquarium. We are hoping to add more (along with perch) in the near future. Our lake is now stocked with roach, rudd, bream, carp, barbel and chub.

Here’s some info about our lake:

Equipment and Fishing Tips

The water is shallowest close to the island at about 60cm, shelving to the outlet end where it is 1.5m deep; on the far side of the island there is a large pool of much deeper water going up to 2.2m giving a great variety of fishing from the choice of fifteen pegs round the lake.

The margins provide cover and cooler water particularly in summer. The bottom is variable and the deeper areas hold plenty of fish; the best Bream often being found in the deeper pool by the island.

Float, Ledger and Poles are all popular depending on the time of year and the species fished for. We are very strict about the use of barbless hooks for the benefit of wildlife and our fish. No keepnets please and always use a landing mat.
