Decisive victory for Bideford Angling Club

Bideford & District Angling Club versus Plymouth & District Coarse Angling Club. Wooda lakes 12 aside , BDAC 407lb PDCAC 203lb , Individuals
1st Kevin Shears 74lb 6oz
2nd Matt Cross 68lb 5oz

Kevin Shears led the team to a decisive victory with his pole caught net of carp on peg 2 ,on lake 1 , Matt was 2nd on lake 4 he would probably have topped 100lb but unfortunately lost his 3rd net through a ripped hole. John was the only Plymouth angler to make the top.8, his third place was on lake 4 nextdoor to Matt, A day of great weather added to a good match, and we hope that next year we can return to the 2-leg event. 1st Colin  Cherrington 31lb 10oz

22 fished. Conditions were very hot and still, Colin has won consecutive monthly matches this time on peg 26 fishing the pole for a good net of carp. Martin’s second place came off peg 12 fishing shallow with sloppy groundbait for a small fish net, Kevin’s found better bream and skimmers on the pole on for third off peg 8. Les continues his run with another pole caught bag from peg 11.

North Devon Match Group Summer league No.5 Lakeview Morchard Road,

1st Tom Downing 76lb 8oz

2nd Andrew Gratton 59lb 5oz

3rd Kevin  Shears 52lb 9oz

16 fished , Thundery conditions , Tom scored his 4th victory in a row, his 25 carp proved a decisive winning net, after a slow start he caught well in the latter stages on hard pellets in the margins from peg 17 , Andrew was best of the rest from peg 1, facing Tom , most of his catch fell to method feeder in open water, 3rd and 4th places came off the road side , .

Final midweek Evening Match results :

1st Keith Mountjoy 16lb 3oz

Joint 2nd David Bailey and Martin Turner 14lb 14oz

4th Kevin Shears 14lb 7oz

5th Thomas Scott 13lb 4oz

6th Stuart Sharp 8lb 8oz

19 fished. The 8th and final midweek evening match was also fished as the pairs competition, winning pair Kevin and Thomas combined weight 27lb 11oz. Keith’s victory came from peg 9 and included some pellet waggler caught carp and bream on the margin pole, his final points tally was 60 a clear 2nd in the league, Martin’s 2nd place of small fish from peg 1 secured a league win with 73 points, The matches have been very well attended and close top weighs , many thanks to all those that have come along and helped with the safe running of these events.

18 fished, The penultimate match of the summer series was fished in warm still conditions, another close competition saw Richard at the top of the pile, with a catch of 6 carp on peg 13 , using his favoured strong line tactics with bread flake. Kevin lost a carp on pellet waggler which would have secured a hat trick of consecutive wins , instead he settled for 2nd on peg 18 , Stephen on peg 8 left it late but 2 decent carp in the closing stages made 3rd spot Martin’s joint 4th with Les has put him 7 points clear in the league with one match remaining.

Many thanks to Martin Turner for his regular match reports from both the North Devon Match Group and Bideford Club. Good to see a tight match with small silvers making up the weights instead of bulky carp. Whilst there is undoubtedly more rod bending in the commercial match’s full of carp there is more refined skill in extracting a net of small fish to compile a net.

12 fished, Warm conditions led to a close match , Tom’s run continues with another victory from the far side with a great net of mainly small rudd taken on a whip, Mark found some better quality roach on the long pole for second place, John led the way for those who elected to concentrate on the feeder, his 3rd spot came to pellets on the first peg over the dam,

18 anglers fished , As the evenings begin to draw in and the league draws to a conclusion, Kevin’s back to back wins from peg 17 has pushed him well up the table. His net of pole caught skimmers and carp were taken on soft pellet, Martin’s pole caught net of smaller fish were mainly taken on caster over groundbait at 10 metres on peg 4, Les has returned to matches after a long lay off and managed third on peg 18 , with 2 matches remaining we hope for clear skies.
