Kevin Peach has caught what could have been North Devon’s biggest ever shore caught conger. The huge eel estimated at 47lb was caught from Ilfracombe Pier. The fish was returned alive to the harbour where it will hopefully continue to grow. For many years divers have reported sightings of big conger dwelling within the old piers structure. Big conger like pike are fish that often stimulate stories of the one that got away as they are very powerful fish that often leave anglers tackle in tatters. The biggest eel from North Devon’s shoreline that I have previously reported on was caught by Mark Frith and weighed 43lb.
