Ashley Bunning enjoyed a cracking weekend in rough conditions at Upper Tamar Lake landing six carp to 17lb 12oz. All fish fell to Burton Bait Rollers new test bait and Lakebed leads distance leads.
North Devon Tackle Shops
There is something special about the local tackle shop; a vital part of angling’s social structure and a focal point where you are likely to bump into fellow anglers and engage in fishy talk. In North Devon we are fortunate to to have several great tackle shops each of them having a special niche within the local angling scene. At this time of year the local tackle shop is of course a great place to locate Christmas presents for the angler! I am very grateful for the support North Devon Angling News receives from Summerlands Tackle at Westward Ho!, High Street Tackle, Ilfracombe and North Devon Tackle in Barnstaple.

Fenix 1750 Lumen’s headlight – HP30R was £139.99 now £116.99
Rovex Boots – Was £49.99 now £39.99
Deeper Pro + was £219.99 now £199.99 (Below)
Free 525 Mag 2 Reel with every Century Beachcaster sold whilst in stocks last. Click on the advert below to browse on line.
I am sure all the local tackle dealers would like to wish a Merry Christmas to all their customers. The recent news regarding the reprieve for bass anglers will come as a relief to all our local tackle dealers. Whilst it is unfair that anglers are restricted to catch and release for bass when commercial fishing can still retain fish it is far better than the total ban that was being discussed.
I would like to to wish all our local tackle dealers a Happy and prosperous New Year. As I said earlier local tackle shops are part of anglings rich social network; many a fishing excursion has been planned in the tackle shop.

Melbury brace of twenties
A quick overnight session for Aaron Jones at the weekend on Melbury produced two cracking 20lb mirrors. Aaron’s pre-baiting and persistence on the venue has paid off in the shape of this 20.08 mirror and a linear of 20.02 which is on the matt. Driving hail and rain didn’t deter Aaron so credit to him given the conditions to catch. He had this to say ‘After 3 weeks of pre baiting I had 2 carp, the first was still in the net while I re-cast to the baited spot then again it went steaming off!’ well done Aaron – top stuff.
Paradise Carp
(Above)Nicholas Rayment, 61 from East Sussex joined us for his free week after his 10th year in a row holidaying with us and decided to target the Specimen Carp Lake as the Main Carp Lake is being prepped ready for the fish to return.
Nicholas was made up when he caught a 22lb 12oz Mirror and a 23lb 8oz Common making his week! Nicholas fished from the Pagoda, using a bottom bait presentation size 6 wide gap hook with a 20mm Krill Boilie fishing over a small bed of hemp, sweetcorn, 10mm boilies and 15mm half baits.
(Above)Oli Dietrich, 43 from Virginstow was a very happy chappy after landing a 26lb 8oz Common also from Nirvana’s Day Ticket Xanadu Lake. Oli used a 18mm bottom bait on a simple blow back rig, with two kilos of freebies around the hook bait in the margin, and was caught on a Robin baits new test bait TT.
(Above)Alan George 39, from Treharris, South Wales caught a 21lb 14oz Common from Nirvana’s Day Ticket Xanadu Lake. Alan caught the Common using Mad Baits Nuts snowman on a Fluro D Rig, fished over boilie crumb and whole boilies.
Paul Craddock from Southampton fished the Specimen Carp Lake and caught a PB 27lb 2oz Mirror off the top on a Sticky Krill Floater. After a 20 minute battle through the patches of Lily Pads he finally landed the fish, Paul couldn’t believe that he beat his old PB by 10lbs! Paul said – “New PB was now 27lb 2oz… That one fish made the whole trip worth it. Thank you for the opportunity to fish such a fantastic venue.”
