SEA ANGLING ROUND UP

Calmer conditions have resulted in a down turn in sea angling sport with specimen fish hard to find over the past week. Despite this some good fish were recorded by anglers fishing the first week of February a time of year when catches traditionally start to decline. The seasons and the migration of fish in our waters is without doubt under going change with reports of mackerel from Ilfracombe in the past week and the presence of grey mullet throughout the calendar year.

Appledore Shipbuilders

Thirteen Anglers fished the February rover today. It made a change to have nice weather for the rover after the last few competitions.
Although there was an easterly wind!
Kevin Pike was victorious with a fabulous Bull Huss of 11lb 7ozs. James Atkinson was second catching a fine Small Eyed Ray of 7lb 5 1/2ozs and 3rd was Chris Boon with a big Dogfish of 2lb 11 1/2ozs.

1st Antony Smith Bull Huss 7lb 9oz 75.625%

2nd Andrew Clements Dog 2lb 3oz 72.916%

Combe Martin Sea Angling Club – Winter Rover 2 Results

Club seceretary Nick Phillips won with a specimen whiting scaling 1lb 10oz. Runner up was Wayne Thomas with dogfish of 2lb 8oz.

Whiting, dogfish, spotted ray and conger were also caught by members who fished marks across North Devon.

Bideford District A.C 4TH Rod and Reel match results date 22.1.23

12 anglers fished the 4th match and fishing was hard going with very few bites. 1st place went to Anthony Bentley with a nice net of carp for 29lbs 8oz fishing the feeder with banded pellet on peg 17. Second place went to John Lane on peg 18 with 10lbs 12oz and 3rd place was shared between christiaan Russell and Sheila Found with 1 carp each for 7lbs. The next match is on 26.2.23 venue to be arranged.

Our first competition of the year was well attended, with 21 anglers braving the weather.
Conditions were colder than recently, with heavy showers, George’s lake has fished hard , although roach have fed all over., and top weights close.
Kevin has put together a lovely net ,of mainly silver fish , for victory on peg 19 using pole and maggots.
Warren 2nd place, on peg 13 , was also a pole fished maggot catch , including several smaller carp.
Les finished in third spot , and won his section.

Bideford & District Angling Club

B.D.A.C. 2nd Rod and Reel match results date 20th November 2022. 6 anglers fished the second match and all caught fish. The weather was very challenging at times with heavy rain and strong winds and a bit of sun at times fishing was hard for all with the fish not wanting to feed.
1st place today went to Keith Copland with 17lbs 11oz with several carp on peg 9 using maggot and micro pellets on the feeder. 2nd place went to Cyril Found with 6lbs 3oz on peg 10 on the feeder and 3rd place went to Anthony Bentley with 5lbs 13oz.

Club members met up at George’s lake, for our penultimate match, in our year-long series.
The unseasonably mild weather led to some very close weights. Darren scored his first victory with a great mixed bag from peg 14, the moderate Southerly wind encouraged him to fish the margins using maggot hookbait .
Second place went to Stephen on peg 16 , another net taken on maggot on the pole. Keith took third on peg 13.
Our next , and final , match of 2022 will also be the Christmas competition.
