Bideford Triumph in Inter-club Match

Bideford’s Coarse Section travelled to Plymouth Coarse Angling Club’s lakes at Cadover on Bodmin , for the first leg of the inter club event. Bideford came out on top with a total weight of 103lb 15oz to PDCAC 76lb 10oz . The comp was fished in great spirits and super autumn weather, several large carp were landed and a few more lost, although top individual was an all roach net of 33lb 2oz for Martin Turner 2nd was Ronnie Moore with a 2 carp net plus silvers for 25lb 15oz , Rober Rand landed an 18lb carp plus some silvers for 24lb 14oz and 3rd , 4th place with 3 skimmer bream and 2 carp was Colin Gorman with 24lb 4oz. We look forward to hosting PDCAC in the return leg on September 29th at Tarka Swims.

Upper Tamar Twenty

Aaron Bunning targeted Upper Tamar lake on the Cornwall and Devon border and caught this lovely mirror at 21lb exactly. Aaron also had a double figure common and both fish fell to Scopex Squid fluro pop ups over 2kgs of 20mm freebies. This continues Aaron’s fine run on the venue…….

Shore tope

Jon Patten was targetting bass with half mackerel baits when a pack of tope swam past! As Jon placed his rod in the rest after casting, his second rod bounced in the rest and the reel screamed its warning. Hastily grabbing the second rod he failed to give full attention to slackening the clutch on the recently cast out rod. As battle commenced with the fish on rod two; Jon watched in despair as his recently cast rod was catapulted from the rest to disappear into the dark night sea. After a spirited tussle a fine tope of 38lb 6oz was brought ashore for a quick photo. Jon was using size 8/0 hooks to 40lb b.s Seagar Fluorocarbon hook lengths.

This is not first rod to be lost as big fish seize the bait and head out to sea its important to always fish with a loose clutch but its easy to get distracted and the cost can be high!

Tarrant Wotton was fishing with Jon on the same session and also enjoyed success landing this splendid huss.

Wimbleball Report from Ed Rands – South Molton Angling Club

A quick report on our trip to Wimbleball.
It was a mainly overcast day with a few sunny spells, there was a westerly breeze which became quite strong when we had a few light showers.
Roger Bray and myself shared a boat with a good, reliable petrol outboard and, after some good local advice we headed towards deep water.
Although the fishing was tough by 3 o’clock Roger had landed 3 and lost 1. I had got my 5 all on a sinking line on 5 different lures.
Steve Edmonds had 1 from his boat and Steve Bendle had 1 from the bank.
All fish were hard fighting rainbows between 2 and 3lbs.
I enjoyed our trip and look forward to going again next year.

Exe Valley Re-opens

Nick and Sue Hart announce the reopening of this delightful Fly Fishery close to Dulverton.

Anchor Lake is once again open for fishing.  The fishery have received several inquirers from anglers keen to fish and have therefore opened the doors in time for the weekend. 

Please note that there is weed present in the lake although the algae situation is much improved.  Dry flies and top water tactics will be needed, long leaders tied to goldheads and heavy lures will result in frustration rather than good fishing!

We advise that all anglers check the lake prior to making a decision to purchase a permit (which must be paid for prior to fishing), please see the relevant rules and details regarding the current conditions in the permit hut.  A fresh stocking will take place in time for bank holiday weekend.

(Above) A fin perfect 7lb plus rainbow caught just before the fishery closed due to prolific weed growth triggered by the hot summer.

As cooler air moves in with rain and wind small stillwater’s will start to fish well. A dry daddy long-legs could well be the pattern to try with weed still problematic to anglers who fail to adapt to conditions.

Twenty Seven ray from North Devon Beach!

Craig McLoughlin who runs Braunton Baits enjoyed an action packed session at a local beach with his friends.

“Well what can I say about last night?”

It was especially  Awesome!

A very very last minute fishing session with Mark Jones and Mark LaMude down the local beach, ended up with a fish a cast for me eleven ray landed five being blonde ray to 12lb and six small eyed ray to 9lb

Between us we had over 27 ray all on the braunton bait box Sandeel.

Big fish from Paradise

(Below) Richard Craig who caught a 35lb 12oz Mirror from Nirvana’s Kracking Carp Lake which completely knocked his previous PB of 17lbs off the scale!!

(Below)Michael Pallett who caught his 1st ever Catfish at a whopping 67lbs from the Main Carp Lake which is pretty awesome for your first ever Catfish!!

(Below)Andy Nettleton joined us for his 1st ever Anglers Paradise Holiday and couldn’t wait to fish the Famous Koi Lake! It wasn’t long before he started catching plenty including this beauty and Andy’s new personal best at 10lbs 6oz!!

(Below)Ben Hazell with a new UK PB at 27.2llb Linear mirror carp. Caught on a 20mm Baitworks Royal Marine hard hook bait which was backleaded and cast close to the lilies. .

Ilfracombe’s Slade on form for carp

Ben Smeeth Reports -“Paul James caught this lovely 17lb mirror from Slade on a boilie. The lake is producing some really nice fishing at the moment”.

Paul James comments from Slade – Mark Brown bailiff at Slade fished for 24 hours he caught a common carp just over 21 lb Bob Coltman has been putting the hours in and was rewarded with 5 carp all mid doubles myself and Pete Pearson fished Slade for a 24 hours session I landed 3 carp with the biggest being a stunning mirror which was stocked in 2007 with 50 other carp average between 2 and 5 pound Pete Pearson landed 2 carp a fine 21 lb common and a mirror of upper double.
