Two Twenties and a Thirty

Paul Willsea joined us with his wife for Valentines week and managed to get some fishing in and caught a personal best 30lb Mirror, a 25lb Mirror and a 24lb Mirror all from the Specimen Carp Lake and won our Fish of the Week competiton!

Paul ’s Story –

“I have been coming to AP for 21 years and have never caught 3 big fish in one week. On Monday 18th February, I went down to the Specimen Carp Lake. The Reel went screaming off after about an hour, I couldn’t believe it, I landed a 24lb Mirror using a tutti fruity boilie.

After a little while, off it goes again and I landed a 25lb Mirror on a Sticky Baits Krill pop up, I was well chuffed, couldn’t believe it – 2 20’s in 1 day!!

Then on Thursday 21st February, about 2pm, I thought I would pack up in about half hour, when suddenly off the Reel goes. I landed a 30lb 2oz Mirror on a tutti fruity boilie. This is the best Valentine week I have ever had, I beat my personal best by 4oz, celebrated my Birthday on Valentine’s Day and had an absolutely fantastic week at AP!”

Here he is with his Winning Fish and being presented his prizes by Zyggy and Zenia with special thanks to PB Products UK.

A Visit to the Tackle Shop

I called into Summerlands Tackle at Westward-Ho! to pick up my Sponsorship Form for Neilsen Jeffery’s charity Match later in the year. ( More on that later) I also took along a bundle of old line keen to make use of the line recycling scheme I helped promote earlier this month. Line is the vital link between  angler and fish. It is prone to damage and degradation over time and for this reason it is prudent to change it on a regular basis. Line both mono and braid is particularly hazardous to wildlife and should be discarded with care. In the past I have cut it into short lengths or burnt it. This new scheme is a great idea and should be embraced by all anglers. North Devons premier tackle shops are all participating in the scheme.

Line recycling

Heather at Summerlands places my old line in the recycle bin.

Summerlands have just updated their impressive stock of carp tackle with an impressive range from Korum and Guru.

Conger secures win in Combe Martin SAC Rover

Matt Jeffery secured top spot in Combe Martin SAC’s Six Hour Rover landing a conger of 18lb 6oz. Conditions proved difficult at many marks along the coast with a large swell pounding the coastline. Fish were hard to find with several of the competitors failing to catch. Runner up was Kevin Legge with a rockling of 1lb 6.5oz and third Ross Stanway with a dogfish of 2lb 3oz. Jonathon Stanway caught a conger of 14lb 8oz and David Jenkins a dogfish of 1lb 9.5oz.

This competition signals the end of the clubs winter fixtures. The coming months will see attention turn to spring ray, bull huss and grey mullet.
