Nathan dominates field in North Devon Match Group!

North Devon match Group Championship No 4 @ Highampton

1st  Nathan Underwood 124lb 2oz

2nd  Mark Richards 47lb 2oz

3rd Neilsen Jeffery 35lb 12oz

18 Anglers fished this event held in glorious hot sunny conditions, we used both lakes and the fishing proved quite challenging for most. Local expert Nathan Underwood  took full advantage of a reasonable draw to completely dominate the field, he alternated between a method feeder and pole with paste on peg 10 on the larger lake. Mark Richards celebrated his 59th birthday with a hard earned 2nd place for the reed beds on peg 14 , 3rd spot went to Neilsen Jeffery on peg 21 on the smaller lake.

Bideford and District Angling Club Coarse Section Monthly Competition @ Tarka Swims George’s Lake Results

1st  Keith Copland 7lb 2oz

16 fished this event in a bitter Easterly wind which appeared to switch the whole lake off . Leading up to this ,the first match of the year on Tarka ,most members were optimistic for a decent match. Keith was fishing his first match after an operation on his right wrist, he drew on the point peg F and fished a cage feeder with micros and red maggot for 2 nice bream late in the match to snatch victory from Dean Siford on the next peg who also found a nice bream and some roach on the tip.Third spot went to Graham Currington  who fished the pole and maggot around 8 metres on peg Q for a net of small silver fish. Martin Turner drew in the shallows on peg A and landed some small carp for 4th place.

Despite a chill in the air & an easterly wind, the lake fished well on the whole. Unfortunately the bigger bream did not show, but it was roach a plenty for most.

Winner on the day was Simon Poynter who put 40lb 10oz on the scales, fishing the pole at 11mtrs on the deck and deep shallow.

Lakes, Oak and Woodpecker on the fantastic Stafford Moor complex were used for the 26 peg event, Venue specialist Paul Morris drew on peg 2 on Woodies and fished the near shelf with the pole and 8mm pellets his 30 fish catch was enough for victory over his neighbour Nathan Underwood on peg 20, who pushed him close fishing the waggler out to the boards on the island. Nathan also fished and fed 8mm’s for second spot .  Tom Downing sat on peg 17 on Woodies and finished just short of the 150lbs for 3rd spot fishing the long pole into the margins.  Bruce Hunt was top weight on Oak and 4th overall his 35 fish catch fell to pole fished paste on peg 13, Britney Shears was 2nd on Oak 17 and 5th overall corn on the pole tactics. Neilsen Jeffery took 6th spot on Oak 7 with a corn in the margins approach. Many thanks to Paul and Jo for their hospitality today.

23 anglers fished . James Grogan drew peg 10 on lake 3 , he has fished around the margin reed beds on the pole, for around 20 carp and a convincing victory.  Shaun Stenton landed around 25 smaller fish on corner peg 6 on the top pool ,his second place fell to corn and paste on the pole. Maggot on the feeder tactics helped, consistent performer, Paul Elworthy into third place also on the top pool. Match organiser John fished with paste in the reed beds on lake 3 for 4th , top weight on the bottom pool and 5th overall was Neilsen Jeffery a pole and corn bag.

13 anglers fished the match that went ahead despite the strong North Westerly wind and squally showers. The reduced field allowed us to peg the leeward banks of both lakes meaning that most competitors had the wind off their backs. Nathan Underwood drew the point on the second lake and after catching 3 carp on paste on the pole , switched to the method feeder with a chocolate orange wafter to take a dozen more for a convincing victory. Martin Turner landed 8 slightly better fish on the fancied peg 4 on the 1st lake on 8mm pellet and bomb tactics for second place. 3rd spot went to club coarse section Chairman Steve Bailey on the 2nd lake, peg 8, margin pole carp catch on corn. The league after 3 matches stands as : Martin Turner  29 points  John Lisle 27 ,  Richard Jefferies 20 Nathan Underwood 20

North Devon Match Group Winter League No 6 Results @ Lower Slade Reservoir

1st Paul Elworthy   16lb 12oz

2nd Mark Richards 12lb 10oz

3rd Nathan Underwood  11lb 12oz

4th Martin Turner  11lb 4oz

5th Neilsen Jeffery 11lb 1oz

13 anglers fished.Gale force winds and driving rains kept the attendance down but lead to a close match .Paul Elworthydrew a peg on the road side near the dam and fished a tidy match with a feeder at range, sweetcorn hookbait and micro pellets feed, to catch a dozen skimmer bream plus some better roach for a clear victory. The next 4 places were separated by around a pound and a half ,Mark came out second with a pole to hand catch of 70 roach he was also pegged on the road side.Nathan Underwood was pegged in the shallower section and was able to fish a longer pole than most, his 3rd placed net was also mainly roach. The final winter league positions for 2018/19 are Neilsen Jeffery 110pts second Martin Turner  105 joint 3rd Chris Morris and Paul Morris  65

A good turnout, with some new faces for the first match of North Devon Tackle Clubs New Year

Winner on the day was current Club Champion Kevin Wilton who fished a 6mtr whip all day catching roach, skimmers for a brilliant 22lb 3oz total

The match was held on the prolific Wooda complex , the 2 match lakes hosted the 22 competitors , the cold windy weather made fishing, for some ,quite tricky. The shallow end of the top lake produced the winner, John landed some of the larger carp fishing with paste at very close range beside the reed beds. Kevin had a hectic start catching over 30 carp from the dam end on lake 2 for 2nd. 3rd place was Craig with another pole catch on the top lake. Stephen Craker came in 4th with a pole and feeder catch from lake 2. John Lisle and Stephen Craker move into joint first in the championship on 19 points.
