Winter League Chills but still ton up bags!

The third match of the Winter Teams league at Stafford Moor was a cold one yet Mark Cullerton still managed a stunning bag of carp totalling 141lb 11oz.

Team Baittech won the event with 6 points and a total weight of 326lb 2oz.

31 anglers fished. Cold bright frosty conditions did not deter the venues carp from feeding in, what turned out to be a closely fought contest.The match was one of the best attended that we have organised . Kevin Shears won the event from unfancied peg 19 on Oak lake with an 18 fish net taken on the bomb and bread.Venue regular Dave landed 9 larger fish on the method feeder and maggot from peg 14 on Woodies for 2nd. Paul Morris took 3rd spot from peg 16 on Oak with feeder and pole tactics . Martin Turner also on Oak, peg 11 ,managed to secure 4th place with a 16 fish pole and maggot caught net.

North Devon Winter League No 2 fished on Mill Park , Berrynarbor .

North Devon Match Group enjoyed a day fishing for the silver fish for which this venue has gained a reputation for some stunning nets.

Twelve fished Conditions in near perfect although light rain dampened the competitors at the weigh in. The larger roach which normally dominate the the frame proved more difficult to tempt Martin Turner  managed to land a decent net of them on peg 2 for 1st place , using long pole with hemp ,casters and tares . Martin Crouch’s first visit to the venue was rewarded with a waggler caught net for 2nd place , which included a fine near double common carp, landed on the stream side peg 10. Richard Jefferies on the adjacent peg 9 also landed a carp and some skimmers on the tip for 3rd spot. Paul Elworthy alternated between tip and pole on peg 1 for 4th place.

South West Lakes Trust is delighted to announce a new sponsor for its carp competitions in
2019.
The Trust has
teamed up with Carp fishing giants Mainline to offer a new series for
competitors branded the
‘Mainline Baits Carp Open’.
There will be three Mainline Carp Opens in 2019 which will run on the following dates: 29-31 March, 5
-7 July and 4-6 October. The series is based at 81acre complex Upper Tamar
Lake on the Cornwall and Devon border which is stocked with carp to 36lbs.
Ben Smeeth, Head of Angling for South West Lakes Trust, said, ‘I am absolutely delighted
to be involved with Mainline Baits for these competitions moving forwards. When the
opportunity arose to work together and after discussions
went really well it was an easy decision for me to make. I am excited by what Mainline can offer and look forward to
building something special for everyone involved. Mainline Baits are arguably the largest supplier of carp fishing bait in the UK and across the world and already they have agreed to putting up some great prizes for 2019 which will benefit everyone who enters one of thecompetitions’.

down at Tamar Lakes, we were more than happy to be able to lend our support and sponsorship of the Carp Open events. So it was no surprise to us that a ‘friendly’ atmosphere is one the things the Carp Open at Tamar is best known for –

Each competition will offer competitors a chance to win a share of £3500 in prize money.
The winners will scoop £2000, runners up £1000 and third place £500. An impressive win for Tom Downing at Darracott not often there is such a large winning margin! Well done Tom!

Tom Downing drew peg 11 in the middle of the dam wall and totally dominated the match with a lovely net of whip caught rudd on maggot. The rest of the field were left in the wake on a cold ,hard, clear venue. Martin Crouch managed to scratch around on the feeder with fluoro pinkies of peg 8 for 2nd , Martin Turner drew opposite on peg 17 and managed a few small roach on a sliding float for 3rd . With very few fish caught on the pole line Michael Blake ,opted for the feeder and despite losing a large carp early , took enough for 4th spot.

Tarka Swims Bideford & District AC Coarse Section monthly competition.

Sunday’s 5 hour match was fished by 9 members in damp,cooler conditions. Martin Turner anded a good carp after 40 mins on peg P this fish, along with 2 skimmer bream on 6mm pellet on the bomb gave him victory. Pete Slade on peg H landed a good net of silver fish to beat  Richard Jefferies by a mere quarter ounce for 2nd place.

15 fished.We used the 2 lower match lakes on the prolific complex and enjoyed a dry still autumnal day. Neilsen Jeffery got his winter league campaign off to a great start with a net of pole caught carp from the roadside bank on the bottom lake , Paul Morris was next peg and landed his 2nd place catch on both method feeder and pole. Shaun Stenton used similar tactics on the first lake for 3rd place  Christopher Morris was 4th from the opposite bank.

Bideford 48lb 12oz Plymouth 32lb 15oz Bideford win over 2 legs 152lb 11oz to 101lb 9oz.

Tarka fished very hard and the 18 competitors struggled for bites, Martin Turner only caught a few roach on the pole but managed to find 3 carp on the banded pellet on a straight lead on peg I for 1st place .A single late carp and a bream on the pole on peg M was enough for 2nd spot for Ian, 3rd and 4th places were also single carp on the pole for Plymouth members John and Dell. We hope to make this an annual fixture.

Upper Tamar Pallatrax carp pairs

Woods and Ford win the Upper Tamar Pallatrax carp pairs and scoop £2000……
Nigel Woods and Richard Ford from Launceston, Cornwall, won the Pallatrax carp pairs competition at Upper Tamar Lake on the 28-30 September. They chose peg 6 which was a shallow peg and fished really well over the weekend to land 5 carp for 72lbs 10oz to scoop the £2000 top prize.

Karl and Alfie Yates (Bude) were second winning £1000 with 4 fish for 52lb 9oz and Allan Jones and Matthew Pepperell (Bude) were third winning £500 with 4 fish for 46lb 8oz.

The largest fish of the weekend was Richard Ford with a 20lb 5oz mirror carp

Inter-club match Bude Canal Angling Association versus North Devon Match Group Results BCAA 140-5 points NDMG 112-5 pts After 2 legs the teams tied on points 276-5, As holders NDMG retain the cup.

Stiff, cold westerly sea breeze made for some tricky fishing conditions, Christopher Morris NDMG fished the tip and waggler on the top basin for a terrific winning weight. 2nd and 3rd places were decided on the bottom basin,where both team captains Simon John Allen  and Martin Turner battled it out on adjoining pegs. Bude’s captain came out on top and helped his team secure a clear victory on the day.
