AP resident guide Julian Chidgey decided to make the most of the beautiful weather at Anglers Paradise & this time he was catching them himself instead of helping their guests!

Starting on the Kracking Carp Lake, Julian landed a 33lb 9oz Mirror using Outlaw Pro Krilla boilies topped with fake corn. He then headed over to the Main Carp Lake where in 4 crazy hours he landed carp weighing 24lb 9oz, 21lb 4oz, 21lb, 19lb 12oz, 19lb 6oz,18lb 1oz, 16lb 15oz and 14lb 11oz. All of which were caught off the surface.

Massive congratulations to our head baliff Ashley Bunning who has caught the beautiful Xanna at 30lbs 2oz from Nirvana’s Xanadu Lake.
Ashley said –
“Well this happened last night! With days only on local waters allowed, I decided to set a target of catching Xanna from the day ticket Xanadu at work (anglers paradise). After getting through a few 20s and double figure commons, on the 5th day I had her! NashBait cultured citruz bottom bait did the business. First 30lber of the year! Happy days!!”

REKINDLING THE JOYS OF FISHING

Gary Strachan and his son Harry enjoyed a 36 hour session at Anglers Paradise’s Day Ticket Fatboy’s Lake where they banked 12 carp too 14lb. All of the fish were in immaculate condition and caught using 12 -mm pop ups. This was a welcome return to angling for Gary who has found his love of the sport rekindled with the opportunity to share fishing trips with his son. Gary commented to me on how the amount of gear carp anglers now carry contrasts to his younger days when you would take; “a flask, some sandwiches, a sleeping bag and perhaps a plastic sheet depending on the time of year? Fast forward 50 years and two trips with the carp barrow to set up. Yes it’s more comfortable without a doubt, but is it really that much more enjoyable?
I guess the essence still remains though perhaps its has all become a little formulaic with many anglers following a text book approach. I doubt it would seem more enjoyable if you turned the clock back to use those floppy old fibre glass carp rods and sun loungers that collapse as your trying to sleep. I recall with fondness camping in a pub car park close to the River Thames. I climbed into my tent after a visit to the pub and my sun lounger collapsed in a tangle of aluminium frames and canvas. Strange how looking back there is always a sense that things were better but I suspect thats just the joy and enthusiasm of youth.

Jacob Middleton, 17 had a session on Nirvana’s day ticket Kracking Carp Lake and caught Parrot at 45lbs 6oz making it Jacob’s new personal best!

Jacob shared – “I managed to set up on peg 2 and flicked out my right hand rod tight to lily pad spot that I had previously baited. I was fishing a Krank style rig topped off with an IB essential mainline wafter, clipped on with a pva mesh bag. It weighed in at 45.6 which was a new pb for me. Once again Anglers Paradise producing the goods for new PBs!”
