Coarse Fishing at Darracott Reservoir

Darracott, Torrington, Devon EX38 7HL
Situated just outside Torrington, Darracott is a real mixed fishery. It is perfect for beginners or pleasure anglers and is loaded with plenty of fish. At 3 acres in size there are plenty of swims for you to choose from. The carp can be caught all over the lake but they do take surface baits in the warmer months which can be great fun. Mixed bags of up to 40lbs are common. There is some cracking perch and roach fishing to be had. The first swim is only 20 yards from the car park if you don’t want to walk too far.

SHORE SPORT ROUND UP

posted in: Sea Angling, Sidebar | 0

Combe Martin SAC – Chay Boggis landed a fine spurdog on a recent shore fishing session weighing 10lb.

15747466_1477329375615183_2748119511442104691_n Shore fishing is proving sporadic with a few good fish being caught amongst a lot of small fish. Triple Hook Club members fished their Hangover Rover Mixed brace match and failed to find a brace of fish worthy of the scales. Club member Steve Luxton fished over the Christmas period and hooked a conger of 17lb.

The estuary flounder fishing seems to have slowed up though there should still be every chance of big flattie; it could well be worth trying the lower estuary at Crow Point.

Up Channel anglers are finding a few quality cod including this specimen of 12lb 11oz to the rod of CMSAC Club member Stuart Taylor.

Whilst this should be the best time of year for shore angling it does not follow that it will always be easy. I have enjoyed two sessions this weekend one in hope of tope the other after the frustratingly difficult to tempt grey mullet. Mullet were present in good numbers a few big fish ghosting around ignoring the bread-flake offerings totally. Hundreds of tiny mullet attacking the baits if dropped into the murkier water.

My only catch was a shore rockling caught on a 6/0 hook and a squid and mackerel cocktail. Its leopard type markings unlike any I have seen previously.

The estuary has been on fine form for flounder enthusiasts but unfortunately did not fish well on the big tide fished by Triple Hook Club members on Sunday October 16th. Only three flounder were caught by the 12 anglers fishing the best to Julian Stainer weighed 1lb 23/8oz. In runner up spot was Dennis Toleman with flounder of 1lb 3/4oz and in third Steve Luxton with a flounder of 151/4oz.
