Daniel Hawkins has been putting anglers onto some superb shark fishing throughout early July with porbeagle to over 100lb. In two incredible days 23 shark were brought to the side of the boat!

This 21lb smoothound was tempted on John Barbeary’s Bluefin.
Bass on the lure
Gary Moore enjoyed a weeks holiday in Woolacombe and messaged me asking if I could give a few pointers as to where he might catch a few bass. I was delighted when Gary messaged me to say he had enjoyed success on several short sessions in area.
Summer gilts
In recent seasons gilthead bream have become a regular catch for North Devon anglers with specimens landed on a regular basis throughout the summer months. Combe Martin SAC member Jamie Steward has landed several of these hard fighting sea bream from local North Devon marks the best scaling 3lb 1oz.
Top Sport on Bluefin
Toby Bassett reported on a great day out on Bluefin Charters with Troy Laing and John Barbeary and the lads.. A few tope caught Toby’s biggest went 29lb along with two others within 10 mins of each other.. Also had plenty huss and a fine specimen 16lb thornback ray.
Lure Fishing Season Starting to Pick Up.
General consensus is that the fishing year is running at least a month late with lure fishing for bass in particular only just starting to pick up. High Street Tackle in Ilfracombe is run by lure fishing enthusiast Danny Watson who tells me that interest in lure fishing is at an all time high. The shop stocks a vast range of lures from many major companies with hard plastics, soft plastics in every variation of weight size and colour. Advice is at hand as to how to rig and fish the lures. High Street tackle are sponsoring Combe Martin SAC,s annual lure fishing competition that runs from July 1st until September 5th. The competition is open to paid up club members with a first prize of up £200 of quality lure tackle with £100 for the runner up.

Quay Sports fishing tackle store require an enthusiastic and keen angler with an all-round knowledge of carp, coarse, match, sea & game fishing. Our busy Barnstaple based store needs another team member to help with daily tasks such as serving customers, offering guidance to customers, re-stocking and managing inventory, entering products onto a database, and various other store related jobs.
A good knowledge of angling is essential as we would expect the successful applicant to be able to offer advice to the customers on all aspects of angling.
Previous customer facing experience and I.T experience would also be advantageous.
We are looking for someone that has an approachable and cheerful character to fit in with our established and well harmonised team.
This is a permanent full time position with 28 days paid leave per annum.

Leigh-Paul Porter caught this 7lb 5oz blonde ray,’ his first of the species from a rock mark near Ilfracombe. it was tempted using a launce and squid cocktail.
